Award winning winery Silos Estate, located on the South Coast of N.S.W. today welcomed Nick Gardner, Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year 2013 as Head Chef of Silos Restaurant.
New proprietors of Silos Restaurant, Brian & Tammy Vassallo-Knapp and Silos Estate owner Rajarshi & Sophie Ray joined in welcoming Nick to the Estate this week, following discussions with Nick since May 2013.
Nick Gardner was selected as SMH Young Chef of the Year in 2013 – following his stints at renowned N.S.W. hatted restaurants Zest, Becasse, Quay and more recently Tetsuya’s. On taking his sabbatical following the award, Nick also spent time at Three Michelin Star restaurants Arzak (Spain), De Librije (Netherlands) and Restaurant Fratzen (Sweden) before returning to Australia to take up his new role as Head Chef at Silos Restaurant.
Announcing his arrival, Rajarshi said “The region, and Silos Estate in particular is thrilled to have a chef of Nick’s calibre. There has been a considerable meeting of the minds with Nick’s focus on local produce, sourcing and food innovation aligning with Silos Estate’s philosophy on local wine production and its long term focus on sustainability”.
Steve Lawson, Tourism Manager for the Shoalhaven commented “The Shoalhaven offers a unique package for visitors – the beaches, the mountains, accommodation – that is now complemented by amazing food and wine. Food and wine have contributed to the Shoalhaven being amongst the only regions in Australia to record double digit growth in visitations in the last few years. Announcements like Nick’s appointment further showcase the areas growth as a destination for food and wine lovers”.
Silos Estate is located just under 2 hours south of Sydney and 2 ½ hours from Canberra and is a multi local, regional and national award winner – and was ‘Winery of the Year’ 2011, 2012 and 2103 for the South Coast in the NSW Tourism Awards.
