The title Learn the lines and don’t fall over the furniture comes from Noel Coward’s advice to a young actor. With thirty-five years of lecturing in acting, Robert explodes the myth of ‘truth in acting’. Using performance, Robert will demonstrate the importance of observation, imagination and concentration when bringing a character to life, including acting techniques used by politicians, preachers and con men to persuade, cajole and hector us into doing what they want. This is an amusing and thought-provoking lecture in which we recognise our behaviours in terms of our own role-play in everyday life.
Robert Ketton taught acting and directed dozens of plays for the University of Southern Queensland Performance Centre for 30 years, retiring as senior lecturer in acting in 2009. Robert has several published books and plays and is currently working on an illustrated children’s book with his artist wife, Catherine.
