Event Details
Acclaimed as literary giants of the Victorian age, Robert Browning, his wife Elizabeth Barrett-Browning and Alfred Tennyson each wrote poetry that reflects an unusually keen interest in the visual arts: in painters, paintings and even the new medium of photography. This lecture considers this convergence of art forms within the life and work of each poet and refers also to the Brownings as avid art collectors.
Geoffrey Edwards was Director of the Geelong Art Gallery, one of Australia’s oldest and largest regional galleries. Prior to this appointment, he held Senior Curatorial positions at the National Gallery of Victoria where he oversaw the collections of International and Australian sculpture and Melbourne’s celebrated holdings of ancient, antique and modern glass.
