The drive to the Southern Highlands traverses Woodhill Mountain and Wattamolla Road to Kangaroo Valley, which on a fine day is one of the most scenic parts of the area. The height of Woodhill Mountain provides views over Berry on the way up and bucolic vistas over lush green dairy farmland on the way down to Kangaroo Valley. Doing this when the sun is lower in the sky provides absolutely magical scenery.
There are many things to stop, see and eat in historic Kangaroo Valley before heading along the winding road up Barrengarry Mountain, through temperate rainforest to Fitzroy Falls. The falls are quite majestic and impressive, particularly after some rain. There is a tourist information centre and cafe there to ponder.
If you have the time, you can continue up to the Southern Highlands, where you may like to stop in at the quaint towns of Robertson, Bundanoon or Berrima, or the more established and upmarket town of Bowral.
It’s a 1.5 hour drive to Sydney or about 2 hours to Canberra from here. But of course, if you’d prefer to enjoy the hospitality here in Berry, we’d be only too happy to welcome you back for some gourmet delights at our village in the evening.
A beautiful scenic drive from Berry, winding up Berry Mountain through beautiful bush with glimpses of wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.
1 hour without stops, each way
