Moss Nest
After more than thirty years of trade as the Berry Printery, the well-known building at 69 Queen Street has embarked on a new life.
Guided by Wendy O’Malley it has been reborn as “Moss Nest”.
Wendy arrived in Berry from Yorkshire in England some 20 years ago.
Since that time she has pursued a career as a practising artist, children’s book illustrator, art educator and arts administrator.
Moss Nest is the next chapter of creative expression for Wendy. For years now she has been waiting for the alignment of town, premises and timing to create the right opportunity for just such an enterprise.
Over time the printery had been adapted to its everyday use as a retail printery. Wendy and her partner Richard Parsons have rejuvenated the building, reinstating the open spaces and the simple and clean bones which hark back to the 19th century.
Inside, the canvas of the building is reminiscent of an old agricultural building with white wash stone walls and open rafters which create the perfect backdrop for the floristry side of the business as well as the many beautiful and unique gifts, textiles and homewares including antiques, recycled and reproduction furniture and women’s clothing and accessories.
The theming shows a strong bent towards nature and romanticism in presentation and materials. Original pieces of artwork by Wendy can also be found throughout the space. Moss Nest truly lives up to its promise of ‘flora and flotsam for lovers of nature’.
With its moss-green door, ever changing merchandise and window display as well as a relaxed atmosphere which welcomes browsers the business is a natural fit with its neighbours in the western end of Berry’s retail precinct. When visiting Berry look out for the cream vintage Morris Minor with a floral crown, when you have found it then you will know you have found Moss Nest!
