Running from 28 June – 5 October 2025, both exhibitions encompass significant bodies of work made over a number of years alongside new commissions, offering different perspectives on contemporary practice.

Betty Kuntiwa Pumani: maḻatja-maḻatja (those who come after) is the first major museum survey of celebrated Anangu artist Betty Kuntiwa Pumani. Her luminous paintings portray the desert landscape of Antara, her mother’s Country in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in north-western South Australia. Using a rich palette of red earth tones, bright blue waterholes, and delicate stippling that evokes white tobacco flowers, her works convey both the physical beauty of the land and the deep cultural narratives tied to it.

The exhibition includes significant loans from institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, along with early works from the Mimili Maku Arts Cultural Collection – some of which are being shown publicly for the first time. These provide insight into the evolution of the artists style and her deepening connection to Country and culture.

Curated by Rachel Kent, CEO of Bundanon, in close collaboration with the artist and Mimili Maku Arts, the exhibition also introduces a major new commission titled Antara (2025), created specifically for Bundanon.

The title, maḻatja-maḻatja, is a Pitjantjatjara phrase meaning “those who come after”, embodying the idea that everything done today is already part of the future. It speaks to a continuous thread of ancestral knowledge, cultural care, and environmental stewardship that links past, present, and future generations.

David Sequeira: The Shape of Music presents four distinct bodies of work by the artist across a range of media, including a significant new commission created especially for Bundanon. Sequeira’s practice is grounded in an enduring fascination with colour, geometry, and sound. His delicate paintings on music manuscript paper – layered with precise geometric forms – create visual ‘chords’ of vivid colour, inviting a sense of presence, contemplation, and the infinite.

The newly commissioned work, Form from the Formless (Under Bundanon Stars) (2025), features 30 music stands, each displaying manuscript sheets hand-painted with imagery of Bundanon’s shimmering night sky, interwoven with Sequeira’s signature geometric patterns and accompanied by a soundscape.

Two earlier series included in the exhibition further explore Sequeira’s investigation into tonal variation and colour intensity through print and glass. Created in collaboration with the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne and the Glass Studio at JamFactory, these works highlight the dynamic movement of colour – advancing and retreating with the viewer’s gaze. His expansive arrangements of transparent glass vessels evoke colour and form in constant flux, reflecting on time as something both fluid and interconnected.

JLD Entertainment & Productions is hosting a Country Dance Spectacular at Berry Showground on the afternoon of 28th September 2025, with a series of fun dance and cheer workshops earlier in the day.

Over the years, JLD has produced many great dance spectaculars for the NRL, NBL and BBL and is looking forward to bringing this great concept to the South Coast.

Main Event

The main arena event begins at 2pm sharp – participants to arrive by 1.00pm. For dance studios – a choreography link will be distributed out to studios to teach students and share with your students to learn. All participants will need to have purchased a pass online $25 per person.

Wardrobe for the event: Denim, white and black clothing options with cowboy boots or sneakers of your choice. Pom Poms optional.

Workshops

Prior to the main afternoon ‘spectacular’ event there will be 4 morning workshops for dancers to attend should this interest them. These will be taught by NRL and NBL dancers, coaches and directors who have worked within the NRL and NRL clubs. These optional sessions will run from 9.00-12.00 noon.

Berry Village Market is a boutique market held in the grounds of Berry Bowling Club, 10am – 3pm on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Parking is available onsite, including disabled parking, and full club facilities including an ATM are available on the day. The market is also dog friendly.

Join Artxtra for a weekend of portrait and landscape drawing and painting in any medium you choose, guided by renowned artist Mathew Lynn. Learn his unique method for understanding and controlling the scale of shapes and features to achieve accurate likenesses in portraiture – skills that also apply beautifully to landscape composition. Mathew’s teaching is expansive and personalised, focusing on your strengths and questions, offering a wide range of approaches across styles and media. An eighteen-time Archibald Prize finalist and winner of the Shirley Hannan Portrait Award, his work is held in major collections and he is represented by NandaHobbs in Sydney.

Berry Gardens Festival returns on Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th October 2025. A selected program of beautiful gardens in and around Berry on the South Coast of New South Wales, will be open to the public to enjoy and appreciate from 10am – 4pm each day.

Tickets are available at all participating gardens, at Broughton Court, 113 Queen Street, Berry on the event dates (EFTPOS is available), or via the link below.

Proceeds from this event support local charities and community groups.

Iconic rock band Crowded House will headline an epic music event, presented by Red Hot Summer Tour, at Berry Showground on Sunday 26th October! Performing alongside Crowed House will be an incredible all-Australian line-up featuring Angus and Julia Stone, The Church, Mark Seymour with Vika & Linda and The Waifs.

Ticketmaster and ANZ Circle pre-sale tickets are on sale from 9am Tuesday 3rd June with general ticket sales released at 9am on Thursday 5th June.

Berry Village Market is a boutique market held in the grounds of Berry Bowling Club, 10am – 3pm on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Bring a picnic blanket with you and laze away in the sunshine while you take in live music and market vibes. Parking is available onsite, including disabled parking, and full club facilities including an ATM are available on the day. The market is also dog friendly.

Art Workshops at Berry will host noted artist and experienced educator, Idris Murphy who will teach a 2 day workshop focusing on painting and sketching directly from nature.

Students will be exposed to a variety of ideas and approaches with informal discussion on composition, colour, mark-making, influences and spacial illusion. Students can paint in any medium. Small class size allows for individual attention, critique and developing your own style.

Idris’ work is held in the public collections of the Australian National Gallery, the National Library of Australia and the Art Gallery of NSW. He was winner of the ANZAC Prize 2015 and is highly experienced in teaching as a Senior Lecturer at the College of Fine Arts.
